How to make Laundry detergent

Hey guys sometimes you may not be able to find that coupon for your laundry detergent, or unfortunately you cannot afford it, i have found a couple great ways for you to make your own detergent from home. Making your own laundry detergent is surprisingly easy, you will need a few ingredients which can be purchased through both the internet and locally. The following are the main ingredients in  homemade laundry soap:

  • Soap- the most popular type of soap is fels Naptha, it is an old fashion soap and is usually found in the laundry aisle of your grocery store. another couple of  great option’s  are  Ivory soap or Zote.
  • Washing soda- Washing soda is something completely different from baking soda and do not confuse the two. The best brand to look for is arm and hammer washing soda . It is very difficult to locate this in most grocery stores but i have included a link to amazon where it can be purchased.
  • Borax- A naturally occurring mineral actually called Sodium Borate. It’s purpose is a deodorizer and whitener, the best brand to look for is 20 mule team and it is available in most laundry aisles

Now that you have the ingredients list here is the recipe:

1/3 bar of soap

1/2 cup washing soda

1/2 cup borax powder

and one 2 gallon bucket

to start you Grate the soap in a sauce pan, add 5-6 cups of water until the soap melts, then mix the washing soda and borax. Stir until it is dissolved then remove from heat. pour four cups of hot water into the 2 gallon bucket. Now add the soap mixture you created in the sauce pan and stir. Now add another gallon of water and stir. Leave the soap for 24 hours, by this time it will turn into a gel.

The gel is the finished product, use 1/2  a cup a load and you have your very own laundry detergent.   I add about 1/2 a teaspoon of scented oil to my soap to give it a great smell, try out a few different kinds to see what you love most.

Now for the savings, by my calculations it only costs .01 cents  a load. Yes i am serious the savings are ridiculous, it does not take very much soap to create the detergent ( about 71 cents worth for every 2 gallon bucket)

Tide cold water Detergent review

I recently purchased Tide cold water laundry detergent from my local grocery store. I have been trying ways to cut down on my energy consumption ( every penny counts) and after reading some fairly positive reviews of the product and decided to give it a try.

Tide cold water detergent costs approximately 37 cents per load. On their website tide states it will save you 80 percent of energy costs in every load.  This is because the detergent was specially formulated to work in cold water. This allows the deter gent to clean tough stains without the need of hot water. After hearing these numbers i decided to give it a try.

I chose mountain spring scented tide and got to work, washing about 4 to five loads a week ( myself and my girlfriend)  the bottle was done in  just over a month. We both loved the smell of mountain springs and it got out even the toughest honey barbecue stain on my favourite white shirt. We figured in our savings after the month, and it was approximately 6 dollars f, mainly  because we were using cold water. Though that is a small number it adds up over the year and  as we all know laundry never quits.  I have heard in a lot of reviews that people got hives or itches form this detergent. I was fortunately not affected but everyone is different, always make sure to start with a  small bottle if you are switching detergents, that way you wont waste to much if you are allergic to the chemicals.

I would recommend tide Cold water detergent, it works great and saves you money, a good idea is to look for coupons for tide detergent online, as buying  Tide can get very pricey.

   Buying laundry detergent is something I consider a constant. You will always buy it no matter where you are. Much like toilet paper it is considered an expense that must be paid monthly. I have always loved the smell of Tide detergent and it seems to get out all my numerous stains the best.  But   When I go to grocery stores the first thing I look for is sales on these “constant” items.  I will be honest, I don’t buy the Tide all the time, i buy what’s on sale.  Even though I know Tide is considered one of the best detergents in the business, I also know it is usually the most expensive as well which can deter me and many other people from purchasing the  detergent.

The best solution to this problem is getting coupons for tide detergent products online.  Instead of waiting for the store to have the product, I simply search for the coupon and order it off the internet.  This allows me to get that great scent I wanted at a price I can afford.  Tide Detergent is no longer out of reach, It is now the only detergent I use and the best thing is that there are so many kinds of detergent that the tide detergent coupons are always changing.
